Welcome to Music City!

Nashville, Tennessee. The heart and soul of music. Athens of the South.

Belmont University is located in the center of Music City surrounded by (obviously) the atmosphere of Music Row, the other colleges located nearby, and the sweet folks from the South. There is a plethora of fun things to do in Nashville and there is never a dull moment in the city!

For the first time visitors, downtown Broadway is a must. It has various bars and small music venues in which there is a show pretty much every single night. The Tennessee Titans play all of their NFL home games at LP Field. The Bridgestone Arena is also located in downtown and it's home to the Nashville Predators, the town's own NHL hockey team. Many concerts take place there, as well, with big names and even bigger productions. Literally across the street from Bridgestone is the Ryman Auditorium. For those of you who don't know about this building, I must say anyone and everyone who comes to Nashville has to see it. Known as "the mother church of country music", it was first opened in 1892. It was established as a church and years later, became known as the first location of the famous Grand Ole Opry. Numerous stars walked its halls from Elvis Presley to Johnny Cash and they all left their mark on that stage and their voices still echo with the phenomenal acoustics.

Nashville isn't just home to Belmont; it has about 16 other colleges and universities nearby. Vanderbilt University, known as the "Harvard of the South" is literally a block away from Belmont. They are known for their rigorous academics and success in research, especially in the medical/oncology field. A few of the other schools include Tennessee State University, Lipscomb University and Fisk University.

The college students hang out around the "suburb" of Hillsboro Village. It's filled with tons of little cafes, random bookstores and good places to get some grub. One of the most famous of Nashville's restaurants is Pancake Pantry. It has been around for 50 years and has made some of the best pancakes known to man. They have all varieties available, but they are known mainly for their homemade sweet potato pancakes. Tourists and locals all flock there in the morning to feast on their amazing flapjacks. Other popular dining locations are: Jackson's (home to their cookie dough eggrolls), Burger Up, Fido, Bongo Java and tons of other great places.

Belmont is famous for its music business program and what better than to be located adjacent to Music Row? Belmont has its own studio, Ocean Way Studios, for its students to study and work on their demos with unlimited access. Studio B at RCA is also located right on the Row and countless famous musicians and artists have recorded in its glory. The Country Music Hall of Fame is situated there as well.

Other Attractions: the town of Franklin outside of Nashville, the Parthenon, the Cumberland River, Radnor Lake State Park, the Grand Ole Opry, Bicentennial Capitol Mall Park, Belmont Mansion.
